Nghi Vo's The Chosen and the Beautiful is an internationally bestselling adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. Jordan, a queer Vietnamese women, navigates the world of 1920s high society. Through this new perspective, it transforms the classis novel into a fantasy tale with feminist features. Jordan's observations reveal underlying insecurities and desires of those around her, and challenges traditional norms of feminimity and sexuality.
Born December 4th 1981 in Illinois, Nghi Vo is a queer author of many short stories and popular books such as The Empress of Salt and Fortune. On her website she states that she believes in the ritual of lipstick, the power of stories, and the right to change your mind. Not much else is known about her, meaning she takes her privacy seriously.
